Furin...Japanese for Great Sushi

Written by David DiCrescenzo on . Posted in Dining Out

After helping a friend move some stuff a couple of weeks ago, we were both pretty much starving, so dinner was in order.  Where to go?  Pizza, a pub, Chick Fil A, McYuckie’s...we considered a lot of possibilities and then she remembered a little Sushi place down the road a piece.  I have to say, even though Sushi isn’t usually my first choice, I’m real glad she did remember it.

We visited 'Furin’ in Delray Beach, (seems I’ve been finding myself in Delray a lot lately) anyway, Furin offers a very intimate setting with only about 8 tables, and a few seats at the sushi bar.  The menu would be extensive if this place was the size of Benny Hana’s; it is more outrageous, in a very good way, considering the size of the place.  I have to point out that this is NOT exclusively a Sushi place; one can also enjoy some 'typical' Asian/American fare as well.

We started with a couple of appetizers and I have never seen Crab Rangoon presented like this.  As the picture shows, they looked like mini money bags, and I’m here to say they tasted like one should need a bag of money; just to die for.  I also ordered a side of Eda Mame, which while I enjoyed them, boiled Soy Beans are boiled Soy Beans.

Next to arrive were the main entrees.  The Monster Crab Roll and the 'Keys’ West Roll; both of which left my taste buds choir singing Hallelujah.  I don’t know why I neglected to take a photo of the Monster Crab Roll, because as you can see from the others, everything they brought to the table had major eye appeal, and amounted to the very best Sushi I’ve had in forever.

I also tried something new for me.  I’m mostly a dry red wine kinda guy, so I passed on the Plum Wine that my friend ordered.  Instead I had a Kirin Beer, which was okay; but I did have just a taste of my friend’s wine, and while it is very sweet, oooh, I had to have a glass with the rest of the meal, which it complemented perfectly.

To sum it all up, I’ll put it the way 'The Most Interesting Man In The World’ might say it; “I don’t always eat Sushi, but when I do, I now prefer Furin…stay hungry my friends.”

The Patriots Press gives them 5 Stars.  You can find Furin at 5058 W. Atlantic Ave. in Delray Beach, FL.  They may be reached at 561 496 6440, and you can find them on the Web at www.myfurin.com.
