Red, White, and Blue for these inmates

Publisher's note:  Once again, 'America's Sheriff' has stepped up and is breaking new ground.  Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County has developed a new jail unit specifically for inmates that are U.S. Military Veterans.

A veteran of the Korean War himself, the Sheriff wants to do his part to help these men and women succeed; so the unit is set up to help with PTSD and other service related maladies, as well as offering an array of job training for use when they are released.

The special unit is painted red, white and blue, and is adorned with the flags and themes from the various branches of our military.

As an observer of this great man, I hope and would be willing to bet that this initiative is met with as much success as the rest of his programs.

Fox News:  Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has introduced a new jail unit specifically for inmates who served in the military, joining eight other jail units under his jurisdiction in Phoenix, Arizona.

"They fought for our country. The least we can do is help them. When some came back, some had mental problems. We have drug prevention programs, alcoholism," said Arpaio.

Known to some as ‘America’s Toughest Sheriff," Joe Arpaio has drawn both intense praise and criticism. From male inmates in pink underwear to the world’s first ever-female chain gang, the sheriff makes no apologies for the way he runs his jail.

He hopes segregating the veterans will help keep them on the right track.

“I served in the military in the Korean War, so I have a bond with these guys. I want to see them succeed,” said Arpaio.
