Overcomer coming soon....

I don’t get to the movies much these days.  For that matter, given the countless 'classic’ movies I’ve never seen, one could say that I never really went much over the years to begin with.

However, I have been blessed over the past ten years or so to be invited to the pre-screenings of many Christian based movies produced by people like the Kendrick Brothers and Affirm Films.  I had another such chance to do just that last week to review the latest film by these giants of that genre.

I don’t mind sharing with you that I am in fact a fan not only of the genre, but also of the Kendrick Brothers.  To my knowledge, I have seen all of their movies, and while I have enjoyed all of them, this new one, “Overcomer” is the best to date and shows me that the Kendrick’s Brothers are really on the way to perfecting their craft.

Like all of their films “Overcomer” has a redemptive theme with lots of plot turns and tear jerking twists and performances.  Just when the viewer might have been convinced that the movie was going to center around one sub-plot, a slight twist occurs and we are introduced to the real storyline as seamlessly as changing lanes on a highway, and we almost forget the initial plot.

As always, the Kendrick’s brought some great talent to the screen including themselves, Priscilla Shirer, Shari Wiedmann, new, but up and coming Aryn Wright-Thompson, and a host of others.

I’m not about to share any specifics except for this trailer because I don’t want to spoil it for you.  You simply need to see this movie on the opening weekend of August 23, 2019 because that is a vote and a message to Hollywood that you want to see more of these faith based, family friendly movies.  I left the theater deep in thought and very much looking forward to seeing the final cut when it opens this summer.

So mark your calendars and plan on bringing friends and family and maybe your church group.  And oh yeah, don’t forget to bring a box of tissue, because you’re going to need it….
