Remember When

Since this is the very beginning, I have decided to take a look back, and with a reminiscent heart, I start this venture by going back in time to the days of remember when.

Each of us has our own history, the times in the past where we often wander with deep reflection on events and experiences.  Thought provoking things often occur when we remember the past and realize how it has shaped the present. I believe we should travel back when we are moving forward and give great thought to our history. So I ask you what is your history?

We live our lives looking forward because in our current culture we are told to forget the past, plan for the future and worry about the things that matter tomorrow.  Stop for a moment and reflect on how history will teach us more about the future than anything else.  For without learning from the history of our past we are doomed to repeat the very things that robs the future of its worth.

Our Founding Fathers looked to the future when forming our nation, but as they made the plans for the future they were careful not to repeat the failed things of the past that restrained liberty and freedom.  I often picture these great leaders sitting tirelessly through the debates and the arduous task of creating our constitution.  I picture many discussions of the past in order to make sure the future was secure for America to thrive as a republic and a free nation.

Abraham Lincoln once said, “I do not think much of a man who is not wiser today than he was yesterday.”  But, consider these words, we are wiser because of the past whether successful events or failures.  We do not have to go blindly into the future, as we have a long and documented history from which to learn.

If we remember when, we might realize that the things in our history that have worked for hundreds of years are not in need of change.  Progress and change are not an answer to everything.  Think for a moment how we could solve many problems by re-visiting the past and capturing the great heritage of our nation and a people.  We might see liberty and freedom in a different light if we applied a little history to the thought process.

I expect a few journeys are ahead for us and for America.  I hope you will join me in exploring the fundamentals.  Some basic thoughts and discussions on everyday life, liberty and our pursuit to find the basic principles of our constitution, our politics and the things that affect our patriotic pulse.  Together as a people and a nation, and by looking back we will find our tomorrows stronger and better prepared for the future.  After all it’s the basics and principles from which other truths are derived, let’s get down to the basics.  Join me at The Patriots Press and welcome to The FUNdamentals I am happy you are along for the journey.
