There is no denying Alabama's success on the field this year, but one player has been shown been recognized for his success off the field.  Barrett Jones was awarded the William V. Campbell Trophy Tuesday night at the National Football Foundations Hall of Fame induction and awards banquet at the Waldorf-Astoria.

The senior offensive lineman for the University of Alabama is an accounting major with a 4.0 GPA.  He was among one of 15 finalists which included a member of the Notre Dame football team, linebacker Manti Te'o.  Alabama will play Notre Dame for the BCS Championship game this season.

As the winner Jones receives $7,000 in scholarship funds for his post-graduate education.  This is on top of the $18,000 in scholarship monies awarded to each of the 15 finalists who compete for the trophy.

Barrett Jones joins the ranks of last year's winner, linebacker Andrew Rodriquez, who graduated from Army as the No. 3  West Point cadet in the class of 2012.

Congratulations to Barrett Jones and all of the finalists who were nominated for the award which is often referred to as the "Academic Heisman".  The National Football Foundation considers the criteria of academics, community service and athletic performance for its winners.
