American Cancer Society - South Palm Beach Chapter 2013 Hope Gala Approaches
BOCA RATON PRESS RELEASE - The American Cancer Society – South Palm Beach Chapter leadership is delighted to announce Saturday, March 9, 2013 as the date for their 2013 Hope Gala. “This is the most fun opportunity to support the American Cancer Society’s programs and services which make a big difference in the lives of people in our community who are affected by cancer,” said Jamie Lober, Public Relations Chairman. It will take place at 6:30pm at Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton. “This is a luxurious venue that will be a host to fine dining, superior entertainment and a good time,” said Lober.
All proceeds from the gala will benefit R.O.C.K. (Reaching out to Cancer Kids) Camp; Florida’s first and only residential for children with cancer. “All campers attend for free and get to enjoy a traditional camp experience that consists of fishing, horseback riding, talent shows, music, swimming, arts and crafts and more,” said Lober. The advantage of R.O.C.K. Camp is that parents do not have to worry about their child’s healthcare being neglected. “These kids have access to a full-time volunteer medical staff that includes resident pediatric oncologists and nursing personnel,” said Lober
The 2013 Hope Gala also denotes the 100th birthday of the American Cancer Society. “I can affirm that we have done more than any other organization in the world to make progress in the fight against cancer and I am thrilled to have a role in creating an action plan for what I believe can be cancer’s last century,” said Lober. Over the years, the American Cancer Society has made considerable progress in the areas of education and advocacy. “If I could preach one thing to South Floridians it would be to quit smoking for your wellbeing and the health of those around you,” said Lober. The American Cancer Society offers help lines, support groups and other materials to guide you through the process. “Basically you have to make the decision to quit and think about why you want to do it, pick a quit date and make a plan and then prepare to deal with withdrawal and maintain your new tobacco-free lifestyle,” said Lober.
The American Cancer Society is also celebrating the large strides in research which grows by the day. “Most recently we have found that studies link consumption of more than four cups of caffeinated coffee per day to significantly lower risk of mortality from oral cancer,” said Lober. This tidbit has been looking at since the 1980s and the finding has shocked many. “While I do not want to make an endorsement for coffee, it should be said that it contains a mixture of antioxidants, polyphenols and other biologically active compounds that actually protect against cancers,” said Lober. When it comes to research, nobody has done more than the scientists at the American Cancer Society. “They are investing in learning about causes and cures, are finding answers that are saving lives and cannot work fast enough,” said Lober.
The American Cancer Society will salute 2013 Hope Gala Honorary Chairman, Peter R. Baronoff, CEO of Promise Healthcare in Boca Raton at this fabulous affair. Promise Healthcare is described as one of the leading LTAC hospital companies in the United States which owns 15 hospitals in six states and has plans for expansion. “I understand Baronoff is dubbed as an authority on the long-term acute care hospital industry and has made community involvement a centerpiece to his life,” said Lober. Baronoff serves on the Board of Directors of numerous organizations including the League for Educational Awareness of the Holocaust, The Haven and Boca Raton Regional Hospital. “It is great that he is so engaged and I hope others feel compelled to make a difference too,” said Lober.
