Dershowitz to shake up Pelletier case

Written by Fox News on . Posted in National News

Publisher’s note:  By now, I think most people are aware of the heart wrenching plight of the Pelletier Family of Connecticut.  In a nutshell, this is a case of a vastly over-reaching socialist state government deciding to step in and remove their gravely ill daughter due to a dispute of her condition between two prominent hospitals.

Hanging in the balance of this mind numbing battle is the fate of a 15 year old girl and her family who just want to regain some sort of normalcy and get on with their lives.

Enter a Knight in Shining Armor.  Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz, the often controversial, always brilliant Massachusetts Attorney who is hated by some, adored by others, and respected by all, has graciously stepped up to the plate and offered his services on a pro bono basis to the Pelletier Family.

The “People’s Republic of Massachusetts” and everyone involved on the wrong side of this case are about to have their over-reaching, child grabbing butts handed to them.

Go get ‘em counselor!

Fox News:  The family of Justina Pelletier, the 15-year-old girl at the center of a custody battle and diagnostic dispute between two of Boston’s top hospitals, plans to take legal legend Alan Dershowitz's offer to help.

Lou Pelletier told FoxNews.com on Tuesday he was thrilled to learn the high-profile Harvard Law professor who has won several high-profile court battles wants to help him win back custody of the girl.

“When you hear about a case like this you scratch your head and you say ‘something else must be going on,’” Dershowitz told Fox News Channel's Mike Huckabee over the weekend.

Dershowitz told FoxNews.com Tuesday he is interested in working with the family's current legal team on "broader Constitutional issues" surrounding the case. The attorney said he isn't looking to "micro-manage litigation," but was moved to offer his help on a pro bono consulting basis after reading about the family's plight in newspaper accounts.

"I have reached out to one of  the family's representatives, and we are trying to set up a discussion on how to proceed," Dershowitz said.

The Pelletier family was left reeling last week after a Massachusetts judge gave permanent custody of the girl to the state's Department of Children and Families. In his four-page ruling, Massachusetts juvenile court Judge Joseph Johnston blasted Pelletier’s parents for being verbally abusive and complicating efforts to bring the West Hartford, Conn., family together.

Red, White, and Blue for these inmates

Written by Fox News on . Posted in National News

Publisher's note:  Once again, 'America's Sheriff' has stepped up and is breaking new ground.  Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County has developed a new jail unit specifically for inmates that are U.S. Military Veterans.

A veteran of the Korean War himself, the Sheriff wants to do his part to help these men and women succeed; so the unit is set up to help with PTSD and other service related maladies, as well as offering an array of job training for use when they are released.

The special unit is painted red, white and blue, and is adorned with the flags and themes from the various branches of our military.

As an observer of this great man, I hope and would be willing to bet that this initiative is met with as much success as the rest of his programs.

Fox News:  Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has introduced a new jail unit specifically for inmates who served in the military, joining eight other jail units under his jurisdiction in Phoenix, Arizona.

"They fought for our country. The least we can do is help them. When some came back, some had mental problems. We have drug prevention programs, alcoholism," said Arpaio.

Known to some as ‘America’s Toughest Sheriff," Joe Arpaio has drawn both intense praise and criticism. From male inmates in pink underwear to the world’s first ever-female chain gang, the sheriff makes no apologies for the way he runs his jail.

He hopes segregating the veterans will help keep them on the right track.

“I served in the military in the Korean War, so I have a bond with these guys. I want to see them succeed,” said Arpaio.

Carter criticizes Obama...what a racist!

Written by Fox News on . Posted in National News

Publisher’s note:  This is rich!  Jimmy Carter, the man who for years, as this example shows, threw the 'race card’ at anyone that disagreed with President Obama, whom he referred to as a "black boy," is now criticizing the administration’s surveillance measures and thinks they are watching him.  So much so that when he wants to say hello to one of his old world leader buddies, he uses ‘snail mail’ so that they don’t see what he’s sending.

Newsflash Mr. 'dhimmi’ Carter, they can and do check snail mail as well.  Geez Louise, does anyone really take this doddering old fool seriously?

Fox News:  Former President Jimmy Carter on Sunday criticized the Obama administration’s surveillance efforts, saying the country’s use of drones has been “abused” and that he communicates by mail with foreign leaders for fear his electronic correspondences are being watched.  “I have felt that my own communications are probably monitored,” the former Democratic president told NBC’s “Meet the Press.”  “And when I want to communicate with a foreign leader privately, I type or write the letter myself, put it in the post office and mail it, because I believe if I send an email, it will be monitored.”

Carter has dealt with a situation similar to the one Obama faces with Russia taking over the Crimea region of Ukraine.  In 1980, he boycotted the Summer Olympics in Moscow after Russia invaded Afghanistan.  However, Obama, unlike other U.S. presidents, has never consulted with him or his foundation, Carter said.

Honolulu Cops allowed to 'Lei' hookers?!

Written by Fox News on . Posted in National News

Publisher's note:  You can't make this stuff up. Apparently some police in Honolulu are upset because their on the job exemption that allows them to have sex with prostitutes may be, if you'll pardon the pun, 'stripped' away from them.  While there is no question that there have always been abuses of this type across America, such an exemption gives the terms "assume the position," "spread 'em," "undercover," and "lei" entirely new and very vile meanings.

All attention grabbing kidding aside; decency and professionalism demand that the State of Hawaii and all other local, state, and federal jurisdictions ensure that no such exemptions are sanctioned and no such abusive behavior is tolerated in an industry that already enslaves and degrades so many on both sides of transactions.

Fox News:  Police officers have a message for state lawmakers: Undercover officers need to be able to have sex with prostitutes.

It's a message they're pressing as legislators weigh a bill that would crack down on prostitution. As part of that bill, lawmakers initially did away with an existing exemption allowing officers on duty to have sex with prostitutes during investigations. But after testimony from Honolulu officers, the bill was amended to restore that protection.

The revised proposal has passed the state House and will go before a Senate committee Friday.

Authorities say they need the legal protection to catch lawbreakers in the act, and strict internal controls prohibit misconduct.

"The procedures and conduct of the undercover officers are regulated by department rules, which by nature have to be confidential," Honolulu Police Maj. Jerry Inouye recently told the House Judiciary Committee. "Because if prostitution suspects, pimps and other people are privy to that information, they're going to know exactly how far the undercover officer can and cannot go."

Vietnam Vets recognized with Honor Flight to Memorial

Written by Stars and Stripes. on . Posted in National News

Publisher’s note:  Dateline August 2, 2013; a long overdue welcoming event to be sure, however, much appreciated by all.  On that day, over 100 veterans of the Vietnam War were greeted with a warm reception at Ronald Reagan International Airport as they deplaned from the first Honor Flight Mission for veterans of that war for the drive to the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C.

On a personal note, I am stunned that this mission went relatively unmentioned in the press, and I only heard of it today…Sunday, April 16, 2014.  I am never the less honored to repost this very short video documenting this event.  Kudos to Stripes Channel and Producer Carlos Bongioanni for putting this together.
