Step back for Keystone

Publisher's note:  In yet another case of a judge legislating from the bench, Lancaster County Judge Stephanie Stacey has invalidated Nebraska Governor Heineman's approval of the Keystone Pipeline; effectively squashing the route for now.

Fox News:  A Nebraska judge on Wednesday struck down a law that allowed the Keystone XL pipeline to proceed through the state, a setback for the project that would carry oil from Canada to Texas refineries.

Lancaster County Judge Stephanie Stacy issued a ruling that invalidated Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman's approval of the route. Stacy agreed with opponents' arguments that a law passed in 2011 improperly allowed Heineman to give TransCanada eminent domain powers within the state. Stacy said the decision should have been made by the Nebraska Public Service Commission, which regulates pipelines and other utilities.

Heineman said Wednesday that state Attorney General Jon Bruning is appealing the ruling.

The ruling could cause more delays in finishing the pipeline. State officials who defended the law are likely to appeal to the Nebraska Supreme Court. Nebraska lawmakers may have to pass a new pipeline-sitting law to allow the Public Service Commission to act.

Bloomberg's anti-gun agenda....fuzzy math

Written by Fox News on . Posted in National News

Publisher's note:  I love it when guys like former mayor Michael Bloomberg get shown up for the misleading, agenda driven, elitists they really are.  I might add, Mr. Bloomberg surrounds himself with men carrying the same weapons he would deny the rest of us.

Case in point is this very telling expose by Dr. John Lott for Fox News, in which he explains that the claims made by Mr. Bloomberg and men like him are littered with half truths and out and out lies.

Fox News:  John Lott.  Are schools and colleges dangerous places, with lots of gun violence?

Some groups paint a picture of these places being particularly unsafe. Supposedly both murders and firearm suicides are very common at educational institutions. Last Wednesday, former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s two groups, Moms Demand Gun Sense in America and Mayors Against Illegal Guns, jointly released a reportthat received massive uncritical news coverage.

They claimed that 44 shootings occurred in schools and colleges nationwide since the Newtown, Conn. massacre on Dec. 14, 2012 and Feb. 10 of this year. Out of the 44 shootings, a total of 28 died. To dramatize their numbers, Bloomberg’s groups emphasized that one of these attacks occurred every 10 days.

But their statistics are not what they seem. Included in the numbers are suicides. Also included are late night shootings taking place in school parking lots, on their grounds or even off school property, often involving gangs. As “shootings,” they also include any incident where shots were fired, even when nobody was injured.

Ninth Circuit Court upholds 2nd Amendment rights in CA

Written by Fox News on . Posted in National News

Publisher's note:  In a surprising and encouraging departure from its normal liberal slant, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals stood on the side of the 2nd Amendment and struck down the concealed weapons rules in California.

Unlike Oklahoma, where open carry and concealed carry is allowed with a license, California has tried to impose outrageous rules and regulations for Concealed Carry applicants

I would hope that all other courts would begin finding in a like manne.r for all such unconstitutional rules and regulations.

Fox News:  SAN FRANCISCO –  A divided federal appeals court on Thursday struck down California's concealed weapons rules, saying they violate the Second Amendment right to bear arms.

By a 2-1 vote, the three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said California was wrong to require applicants to show good cause to receive a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

"The right to bear arms includes the right to carry an operable firearm outside the home for the lawful purpose of self-defense," Judge Diarmuid O'Scannlain wrote for the majority.

Judge Sidney Thomas dissented, writing that the good cause requirement limited the number of people carrying concealed handguns in public to those legitimately in need.

"It limits the risk to public safety by reducing the number of guns in public circulation, but allows those who will most likely need to defend themselves in public to carry a handgun," Thomas wrote.

Lt. Michael Behenna to be paroled

Written by newss 9 oklahoma on . Posted in National News

Publisher’s note:  In 2008 Lt. Michael Behenna became our first POW in the cultural war of political correctness.  Essentially, this fine young man, a soldier of the US Army became involved in a fight with an insurgent; during that entanglement, the insurgent was killed and Lt. Behenna was charged and summarily sentenced.

I am over-joyed to report that Lt. Michael Behenna is being paroled from Ft. Leavenworth as of March 14, 2014; I am also still aghast that this fine young man was ever charged and imprisoned in the first place.

As We the People welcome this hero home to his loved ones and he begins to rebuild his life, it is now time to really increase pressure on Washington to effect the release of the only POW from the Afghanistan war; Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.  We the People must strike while the iron is hot.

News 9, Oklahoma:  EDMOND, Oklahoma - An Edmond soldier serving time for murder wins parole and is expected to be released next month, according to family.

Former U.S. Army 1st Lt. Michael Behenna is serving a 15-year sentence at Fort Leavenworth. Behenna was convicted of unpremeditated murder in a combat zone for killing an Iraqi civilian while fighting in Iraq in 2008.

Prosecutors have argued that Behenna killed the man by shooting him in the head, execution style. Behenna says he shot in self-defense.

Behenna's family has stood by him and now says he has won parole and will be released from Fort Leavenworth on March 14.

Global Warming Strikes Heartland with Icy Winter Blast

Written by Fox News on . Posted in National News

Publisher's note:  A belt of Arctic like weather, set to pack severe Ice Storms, is stretching and and bearing down on the heartland from as far west as Texas all the way to Atlanta and up into the Northeast.  We at The Patriots Press join the rest of the nation and hope that all those in the wake of this storm will be minimally effected and remain unharmed.

Fox News:  ATLANTA –  The city dodged the first punch of a dangerous winter storm Tuesday, but forecasters warned of a potentially "catastrophic" second blow in a thick layer of ice that threatened to bring hundreds of thousands of power outages and leave people in their cold, dark homes for days.

The streets and highways in metro Atlanta were largely deserted as people in the South's business hub heeded advice from officials to hunker down at home, especially after the snow jam two weeks ago saw thousands of people stranded on icy, gridlocked roads for hours when 2 inches of snow fell.

"Last time I was totally unprepared, I was completely blindsided," said Lisa Nadir, of Acworth, who sat in traffic for 13 hours and then spent the night in her car when the storm hit Jan. 28. "I'm going to be prepared from now on for the rest of my life."
